Headed out into a nasty north wind on monday am, pretty ugly until we rounded the point and took shelter on the south side. Not much to report until around 5pm..........lots of running from the point to ditch plains and back again....north side was unfishable .....everyone was roaming up and down the southside. Occassionally, there were some albies west toward the cottages but I didnt see many people hook up. Around 5pm, we were dregging around turtle cove and saw some birds in the distance off the point and took off to investigate. It all broke lose around 3-4 miles east of the point in the middle of some wild rips....near great eastern........albies were everywhere, but casting was next to impossible. We ended at 6:30 with six albies caught and released, then picked up another one right off the point on the way in. Picked up a few blues during the day too- 5 to 10lbs. Tough day, definately deserved some wine tonight.
Tomorrow looks better-SW 5-10. Plan to head to Gardners in the am, may run offshore in the afternoon.

Good report! I opted to head to Gardiners on Monday to look for Albies and bass. Was pretty rough for sure with that stiff NW. Did not see one albie at all in that area. Maybe you will have better luck after the wind subsides......

If you're going to wait for the wind to subside, according to current forecast, you're going to have to wait awhile. Forecast from tom'w afternoon right through the weekend is many days of high NE winds. Seems like we've gotten one of these "dry noreasters" now around this time for the past couple years.
With full moon this weekend and high NE winds, people might want to check their dock lines, etc. as I suspect there is going to be some real high tides.

Hi Mike,
It's been quite some time. Good to hear you got some fish. I know you come from far away to enjoy this sport. Funny how an hour can save the day.

Hi Howie-good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Rich and I have really started enjoying the "near offshore" scene the past two years-out to about 30 miles. Some sharking(first 200+lb mako), some skippies on the fly, tons of mahi on the fly this summer, and lots of looking for bluefin! We fished most of June and July this year.
Have always loved the fall action, been chasing albies for about a dozen years now.....the crowds are tough these days but during the week, you can usually find some space almost too yourself. There really arent that many Albies around this year.
This summer we upgraded to a 25 ft CC Grady....twin 150 yamahas........feels alot safer out there.
Take care.
