:) I'm traveling to Boca in a couple of weeks and would like to fly fish the area. Does anyone have any information for shore fishing around Boca? What's needed for tackle - line and flies?

What sort of fish are in the area?

Thanks for the information.

If you head North to Palm Beach area (about 45 minutes) there is the MacArthur State park. They have some flats fishing and surf fishing. Kayaks are also available to rent. I believe Boca also has a fishing pier but it is not set for fly fishing. There is also the beach at Boca itself but MacArthur is the most pleasant place because the high rises are not directly behind you.

I usually take an 8 wt. with an intermediate line. Its good for most of what you'll find.

Thanks Jed for the information.

Just one more thing, what about the type of fish this time of the year and what sort of flies should I have?

Thanks again.

Good fishing can be had right around Boca Raton.
You'll be here during our mullet run, which has millions of baits moving from north to south along the beach.
Jacks, bluefish, snook, tarpon, and sharks all feasting. Just go to the beach at Spanish River Blvd.(also known as 40th St.), and look northward for signs of baits coming your way(birds, blow-ups by tarpon, bait scattering in the air). Some schools sneak through(looks like dark areas or a cloud shadow on the water).
Fish mullet or baitfish patterns like the Sar-mul-mac,EP mullet,or the Eat Me.
All of those flies are available at Ole Florida Fly Shop(561)995-1929.The shop is located at 6353 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton. Stop by and see Darren, who is a wealth of knowledge for this area.

Or, let me know if you're interested in a guided trip while you're down in Boca.

One thing I forgot,

Fishing the beach works best with 8-10 wts.
Definetly use a clear intermediate line, it will help you throw into the wind, also keeps the fly tracking just under the surface, away from the weeds.
Don't forget, bring a stripping basket.
