Got out early at sun up and headed to the point. Immediately found albies all over the north bar-out to about 1 mile, with some blues mixed in. Not thick but plenty of fish on each drift. Lost a few flies to blues but it was a good start to the day. Picked up two albies. Headed to Gardners next as the SW wind was kicking up, and we thought we might find some fish and get protected from the wind too. Hit fish right away at Eastern Plains Point, lots of action, including some groups of 10-12 fish moving together on the feed....reminded me of a few years ago. only two or three boats working the area. Hit our first double of the trip. One really interesting observation was quite close to shore.....tons of snappers flying out of the water with albies porposing completely out of the water giving chase-didnt know ablies ate them! The day got even better..........as the tide started to die out, the action moved right up to Bostwick Point next to shore. Albies were thick, and feeding hard. It was surprising that there werent many hook ups-very selective. Fished really hard with tons of great casts right into the action and only had 1 albie to show for it....better than many alternatives!! Then ran to check out the start of outgoing at the North Bar, and then headed in for a 5pm phone conference. With a 20knot SW blowing on incoming tide, it didnt look like it was going to be fun evening!
Based on the wind forecast, I think I'll be surf fishing the next few days.
