I’ve been driving down to Newport periodically after work to fish. Needless to say the drive is getting old very fast. I work in Boston and I’m looking for some local after-work spots. I’m fly-fishing and I don’t have a boat. Any info would be appreciated.

Regarding the fishing report, I was skunked. I may lurk a lot but it’s because I spend half of my time trying to identify on a map the locations that are referenced on the board. Oh well, you got to start somewhere.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,

I have been fishing (wading with flyrod) for the past several evenings at Wollaston Beach in Quincy. If you look on a map, look for where Black's Creek flows in. I am no expert on the area but have been catching a few up to 22" and have seen a few caught. I have been told that the best tide to fish it is outgoing. It was mentioned a few posts back that the Neponset river is fishing well. Have't tried it but might give it a shot tonight.
Good luck
Brendan

Try Castle Island in Southie - always good on the outgoing.

Try M Street in Southie. Best times to fish it are at sunrise high tides and in the evening at sunset with the second half of the flood tide. Fished there tonight in less than optimal conditions (20 knot south wind, murky water) and managed two 20 inchers. Start fishing about 200ft. from the wooden wall and work your way toward the wall. Pretty good spot all season long.--JK

Try to get a shuttle to one of the Harbor islands. I have a friend who takes me out and the area around the islands are great. Also try the Winthrop area it also is good from shore. Check the other posts for local info.

Thanks for the tips, I went to Newport last night prior to checking the board. I saw a lot of squid in the water and managed to hook one on a large white clouser. Second beach by the bird sanctuary.

Again, thanks for the info.
