Bump!

This is a sweet reel. Huge drag and much better made then Sci-Ang or Orvis reels of same size and grade.

Like you, I'm overflowing with fly reels right now. But, somebody must be in the market for a quality reel, although the end-of-season phenomenon may have an effect on demand currently.

I'm not familiar with JA Forbes (except for their miniature fishing systems, which are a novelty but not IGFA recognized), or with how long this model has been manufactured, or with the drag system (cork v. synthetic, etc.), or with the warranty (e.g., lifetime of originial owner, transferrable, JA Forbes' wherewithall to stay in business and honor its warranty). I'd imagine prospective buyers would want to have such questions answered before making or accepting an offer for "used" or "second-hand" equipment sight unseen (although the photos are nice).

Also, just out of curiosity, why did you purchase a cranberry red reel? Admittedly, it does look cool.

Finally, why are these reels apparently crashing in price? See http://www.flyfishingforum.com/flytalk4/showthread.php?p=81909
. A new tarpon reel for $208???

Matt,
Good questions.
I've fished with JAForbes reels in freshwater for years and they have been solid through and through. I owned an identical #6840 in Black and it held up well for 4 seasons of bass, blues and ablies, later it was left in Norway with my brother, who abused it on salmon for two years. Whatever became of that reel is unknown.

Why cranberry? Why not.

Drag system- synthetic/carbon fiber.
Brand new except for one lite use.

Why are they crashing in price? Did not know that they were.
