Quick update-a little late. Fished most of the day with my dad on 10/8 (sun). Ran to High Plains Point, to the Ruins, and back to Shagwong, and came up completely empty. I did talk to some of guides on the water and it seems that fish were caught at the point and on the southside-mostly blues-but it was too rough for my dad at age 80. We tried again for 2 hrs on Monday am and found small schools of blues working at Shagwong on the incoming. Fish were swimming lazily gobbling up scattered rainbait on the top with no bird actitivy.......so you need to run and look carefully. Ended up fishing at outer Shag and got my dad into four nice blues on light spinnning tackle fishing deadly dicks with epoxy teasers (3/4 took the teaser)-took a few pics and released all. Didnt see any ablies. Hopped on the Jitney and flew back to Colorado. Will be back out for Thanksgiving............herring run anyone???

Post some reports to keep the "landlocked " going!!

was there yesterday, and the fishing was so good it wasn't even fun. it just became almost disrespectful in my mind to cast to them, there were so many fish. just kind of watched zillions of bass feed. caught two or three, stopped and watched. caught albies and bluefish, too... but mainly just sat and watched... and tried to catch more albies.

Hi Danny-isnt that an amazing sight.........I've had several experiences like that during the fall in montauk where I just stop fishing and watch. Where was all the action?

It really blew up yesterday. Classic Montauk bass blitzes.

This doesn't happen every day. I thought it was awesome and I had a great time catching bass on the fly AND watching the fish! The water was sparkling with the scales from the baitfish. Incredible sight. Nature showing some spectacle. Very very cool.

Not fun? I'm sorry, you are a bit jaded my friend.

hey mike... you know, it's such a small place... you couldn't possibly miss it. it was mostly right off the point toward the late pm... also dawn... but there was other stuff happening throughout the day, loads of albies shots that no one seemed aware of... a couple of really awful boat-handlers, but mostly everybody was cool, and it was fun, hadn't been there in a boat in a year and a half... i agree with phil by the way, i think the best part is the tiny scales in the water... beautiful. oh, by the way, phil--yes, i am jaded (very), and i just don't think dropping flies into 16 million feeding fish is that challenging. after like 2 fish, it was enough for me. but that's just me... enjoy.

Mark:
The water temperature dropped a couple of degrees over the weekend and that may have helped. Peanut bunker and maybe baby blues appeared to be the targets and bigger bass (12-20# on a boga) were feeding well Sun late and Monday all day. A friend fishing Tuesday said the big fish were feeding even better. I also did a lot of watching during the blitzes. I'm done with my 2 weeks and Montauk and drove back to Pittsburgh yesterday. See you at Westlake next year.
