Since NY has had this before us...Ma. I thought I would ask and see how you made out this past spring with start ups, after winterizing a season with the e10 fuel.
Did you winterize with a full tank?
Did you add stabilizer?
Did you start off the spring with a higher octane?
Did you end up with water in tank after sitting all witnter?

I appreciate any feed back...we all have our own ideas up in here in Ma, but I figured I would get some opinions for our fellow boaters in NY that have had more experience with this new fuel.

Thanks in advance..Bob...ps hope your fall run is better than ours.

I did not add any fuel additives, I left about 40 gallons in a 110 gallon tank. This was on a 200 HPDI and the only thing I did was load it up with fogging oil. In the spring it started up perfect, then I replaced the filters and lower unit oil. No problems since, and I am going to do the same thing this year.

Jake, no matter what you do.... add some fuel stabilizer to your fuel. Make sure you add the stabilizer and pull the boat around for a few minutes if it is not in the water so it gets mixed up. Put in a double dose.. Then run it on the hose/muffs for atleast 10 minutes to get the stabilized fuel up into the fuel system on the motor.

I change filters, add fuel stabilizer, fill the tank with high test [gas will break down to regular by spring], run the engine and fog. I also put a deflated balloon over gas vent [supposed to keep moisture out while letting gas expand and contract]. Been doing this for six years without any problems.

This will not work for everyone but I head down to VA/NC for some ocean stripers in Dec, Jan and Feb. I do run Stabil all winter just in case the motor is not run for 4-5 weeks. I have not fogged an engine in years. I keep my tank full after each trip.

My mechanic also said to change the water separator/dirt filter more often with E-10. He said with the big blue Yamaha filter to change at 50 hours. If I use the short Racor with the see through bowl to change ever 30 hours. I put on 90 hours in 2 weeks at Montauk recently, so I do not follow the 30 hour recommendation when I am running that much. He was more concerned with dirt than water. Apparently the ethanol scrubs the junk loose from storage tanks and boat tanks. He also said four strokes are not having much trouble with E-10.

Hi,
1. I don't winterize with a full tank, I keep it less than half. In the spring I top off with fresh.
2. I add twice the recomended stabilizer (full bottle to half tank).
3. I do start the spring with a higher octane, on only the first fill up, to balance out any loss during the 4 month layup.
4. Water will always be in your tank in the spring no matter what the gas is MTBE, E-10. A fresh filter in the spring and a second filter for shortly after the first few runs keeps my boats running fine. This year I kept my tanks topped off throughout the season, unlike other years.
Hope this helps.
