After spending most of the priot weekends waiting for my engine to be repaired or busy with family obligation, I fished little. I finally got out Saturday morning. Buzzed out to Gardiners early. Fished the ruins, the rips and Bostwicks. Nothing. Checked out the east side. Nothing. Decided to shoot out to Montauk. Not much happening at Shag or elsewhere on the north side. Turned the corner on the south side and it was blitz city. Huge areas of busting fish and not too many boats early. Mostly blues with bass mixed in. Fished that way for close to an hour, losing flys and lures. More action west, closer to Ditch Palins, but alas all blues. Did not catch any albies. They were present but thin and sporadic. Saw few caught but not many. Fishing slowed and many boats milled around the Point. Turtle Bay, at one point, had a dozen boats or more. Ridiculous. And funnier still was the onslaught of boats chasing 2 ablies that happened to break the surface. It was a nice day and glad to be back out. Nothing like seeing the water around you turn brown with bait and then a split second later, bass and blues slashing into the water. Tiny baits leaping from the water only to be plucked by a tern. Beautiful.

Gardiners was alive today. Not in the rips but all along the northside about a mile off the island. Huge schools of bluefish chowing on rainbait. Water very calm and clear so you could pick out a group of fish to cast to and watch the race for the fly. No bass or albies in the mix.
