I spent a night last week getting my tires off, got new ones put on during lunch. Noticed dry wheel bearings, some more do re me,a stop by P.Trailer, a 6 pack and 4 hours later I now have a fresh set of wheels and bearings to roll on.
Finally got out to the HRBT last night 10/15/06 for a couple of hours. Last minute trip, and couldn't find anyone to go with me. Of course everyone else decided to go last night, but it's just expected this time of year.Fished a 5wt and a 9wt. The 5wt is the door prize I won and is only 7ft long. All of my future rods for night time fishing will be 7ft. It was perfect for working in tight quarters, but doesn't have much backbone. Fish were stacked up. I don't even bother counting anymore. If you wanted to catch numbers, triple digits would only be challenged by your arm and lipping thumb stamina. The fish weren't really moving, and I couldn't get in tight enough to Cattle Prod, so I improvised and came up with "Schoolie Herding". I would put the fly in front of the schoolies, and get them to chase it down the light line towards me. After a few casts, you could move the majority of the fish in casting range to the other side of you, and have a fresh set of fish move into the spot you just herded the rest out of. This would also move some bigger fish in, by making them think the puds were eating and they weren't. It was great to watch the puds get all stirred up chasing the fly around, then watch the bigger fish move in and get frustrated that they weren't getting any of what they had. Right when they got frustrated, put the fly right on 'em, and whammo, smash, crash, in your face take! Fish ranged from puds to the upper 20's. Lot's of blue fish running around also. Didn't see any big fish, probably do to the fishing pressure of Rocktober. Kept a couple for tonights dinner, and called it a night.

That is what I call a creative solution to a problem.
