Hello once again from the Florida Keys. It's been awhile since my last report. Pretty much took the entire month of September off to visit family in the Carolinas. Nice break from the heat but I started to go into convulsions from a lack of saltwater. Anyways, October has been great. Huge tides this month equals good fishing across the board. Up in the Everglades the redfish and snook fishing has been awesome for numbers. Most of these fish are rats but the quantity makes up for their lack of size. A buddy of mine fishing a one day tournament last week wound up with 45 redfish and 6 snook for his anglers! What's more amazing is that he only placed third with those numbers! The bonefishing has been solid with tailers, mudders and cruisers. The key is to always look for good current. Even with the great tides the fish can be cranky. Found a bunch of oceanside fish that kept refusing a live shrimp. They'd sniff it and move on. Must have found the fat, stupid one in the group because he weighed a solid, 11 pounds. October is always a great permit month and these fish haven't disappointed. There have been a lot of permit around in the 10-20 pound range with some monsters mixed in. They love hard current and drop their defenses somewhat in such a situation but permit are never easy. Little tarpon 10-20 pounders can still be found oceanside and out back with a few monsters thrown in the mix. Until next time. -Pete
