Took day off seeeing that it was going to be a nice day on the water and the next few days had high wind predictions. Left Greenport at 9 AM headed for Gardiners. Got to Ruins and everything looked quiet - tide just starting to go out. Cruised to Eastern Plain Point where I picked up three schoolie bass and a blue. Noticed lots of bait off Tobaccolot but no fish on them. Later,I'm fishing just east of Gardiners when I see a small commercial boat set a net right off Eastern Plain Point. Guy was very efficient. He dropped the net - and motored down tide. He started hauling the net only a few minutes after setting it. Must have caught a couple of hundred bluefish in that one haul.
Cruised along northside of Gardiners heading west back toward Bostwick. Sporadic bird and fish activity but nothing to write home about. Nothing in the rips so left and went back to where I had seen all the bait earlier. When I arrived it was an all out bluefish blitz off Tobaccolot. I was the only one there. Had the place to myself for 2 hours. During that time water was brown from all the bait and the blues were taking their time going through them. Left at about 3:30 and fish were still there and not another boat.
No sign of albies and I did not see any bass in the afternoon blitz.

Thanks for the report, we need more like this on here. I fished Montauk recently a few times and made the run to Gardiners one time and didnt see anything. Was curious as to what was going on out there.

Too bad you didn't run into any bass or albies, but there's nothing like being out there with fish biting and it's just you. That's one of the nice things about Gardiner's.
