Planning a trip in mid-april, appreciate any insight into both the inshore and offshore fishery. Any recommendations on captains or places to rent boats would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

April is about time things get started down here. Some reds are inshore by then. Offshore could be a little quiet. Intracoastal angler has some fly guides.

Seth Vernon is the owner of Intracoastal Angler in Wrightsville Beach, 888-DBL-HAUL. He personally guides and knows the area well. The redfish should be on fire on the flats during April. I could email you some awesome redfish pictures from April/May if you want to get fired up. I landed 8 this past Sunday in about 3hrs up to 32" in 18" of water and less. I will be headed back next weekend. Can't wait!

Thanks all for your responses. I will give Intracoastal a call as we get closer.

April is a good month for red dawgies.
Got this one tailing on top of a grass flat on April 26 this past spring:

This kind of grass flat fishing does not really occur south of Morehead City. It is pure sight fishing with a flyrod and nobody else is really doing it but me. Topsail is about an hour drive from here.

You should check with Capt Dean Lamont of Crystal Coast Adventures out of Atlantic Beach. He's a great guy, knowledgeable and will work his butt off to make sure you have a good time. I have used him for the past 5 years and have always had a great time.

Dean's a good guy. Friend of mine. I got him going in the shallow water game about 5 years ago (time flies). I actually rode with him to Titusville to pick up that little boat he has. We figured out the local redfish together. He spreads out and does a bunch of other stuff too. Redfishing is about the only thing I do anymore.
