Penn 965 drag problem

My Penn 965 seems to have a drag issue lately. The problem is that no matter how much I turn the star drag in either direction, the drag tension remains the same. Does anyone know what could cause this? Is it an easy problem I can probably fix (not too mechanically inclined).?

It may be that the drag washers are stuck together,and turning the star can neither increase or decrease the pressure on them.Not a bad idea to back the drag all the way off between trips.I'll bet your local shop has the parts right under the counter.

Thanks for the info. I do back off my drag on all my reels after every trip and this is the first issue I've had of this sort in ten years of owning that reel. But it looks like a stop at Red Top this weekend is in the cards.
