Well what say you Montauk guy's did the good fishing of the past couple of days continue through the weekend. I was tempted to make the run today but opted instead to stay local and do some blackfishing and man was it good. 2 man limit 8 fish to 10 lbs. We must have caught 30-40 fish and were culling out 4-5 lb. fish like crazy.

tough to get on a fly too!!...just kidding man ..nice job ... love blackfish in a red sauce over linguini....man that's good.
Nice blackfish!
I was out late yesterday and for awhile again today. Montauk had a non-stop blitz of 5 to 10 lb. blues and schoolie bass. At times the blues dominated, at times the bass did. Bass all small. If you can believe it, there's still huge amounts of bay anchovies. Can't overemphasize how many birds were out there. Unlike the post someone put up about fishing during the week, it was a zoo out there. . . . this is the time of year when its not just the flyrodders chasing the blitzes, but the party boats and all the other folks who are usually either fluke fishing or trolling wire.

Fishing from shore was very slow around the point but far out you could see the boats having a blast! Jealous.
funny how those fish arent in tight to shore like they were just a couple weeks ago when the surfcasting was off the charts, espcially since its still quantities of the same baitfish.
hmm, either its maybe water quality since last weeks windstorm (though its cleared up by now) or maybe the shallow water in close is a bit too cold now for the anchovies?? beats me.

I was out on Saturday as well and some of the shore line, esp, on the south side still looked muddied in some areas.

A strong NE wind would have been nice to push it all on the beach :)

I made the run on Sat., having been out of the country and out of touch w/ fishing reports for the previous week. I wasn't disappointed. I've never seen so many birds in my life. Big clouds of 'em over bass and blues, w/ some good sized blues. My biggest problem was deciding which rod to use- one was rigged w/ wire for blues, the other w/ mono for bass. I lost several flies on bite-offs and cast wire into bass blitzes fruitlessly several times, too. A beautiful fall day. Hopefully, I'll get another, but if not, it was a decent season-ending day.
