Hello again from the Florida Keys. Since my last report the story has been: wind, wind and more wind. The nice little fronts that have been marching across the country have been affecting us too, bringing my beloved breezy conditions. It seemed like anything under 20 knots was just a dream the last ten days or so. Regardless, the fish are still there and all it takes is an adjustment of the gameplan to provide bent rods. There are always protected shorelines to fish and sometimes you just have to resort to soaking baits on the bottom. Anyways, last week the bite was still solid in the Flamingo area for everything from snook to big jacks. While we didn't get into a ton of trout the ones we did get were slobs. The highlight since my last report has been the redfishing. The last few days have been great and today was the highlight of the week. After starting the day boating some big trout we moved on. Calm, clear conditions found us poling a flat that had been productive earlier in the week. The reds were in thick, tailing and pushing all over the place. Everywhere we looked, you would see fish and all of them had shoulders. We managed four on fly and two on artificials and they all weighed from 6-9 pounds. Believe it or not, my angler was content with redfish and wanted to see what else was around. I told him we could look for some little tarpon. So we said goodbye to the reds and hit one of my tarpon spots. Fortunately they were there and we jumped three before we finally boated a 12 pounder. The little tarpon are always fun and don't break your back. While we didn't get a "backcountry slam" it was still a great day. Until next time. -Pete
