(#$119) Report for Tuesday 11/14/06 Decided to pass on the schoolies close by and look for Larger stripers. Hit all the spots Coney Island ( all Over ) Breezy Point, Zig zagged all over Raritan Bay. BIG NOTHING No birds No fish anywhere. Hit the Tip of Sandy Hook, blind jigging over NO signs of life, caught a 27 inch striper with a storm lure in his mouth and about 150 feet of braided line on that, set him free all un-hooked ( pocketed the lure :brow ) From there hit all the Lighhouses, West Bank, Romer, Old Orchard still nothing, back to Breezy & Coney NOTHING!!!! Went back close to where I started and jigged about 30 schoolie stripers to 25", on a light rod it's still a blast! I keep records and last year Nov 15th was a banner day with Gorilla Blues and Monster stripers all day! Guess I got spoiled that day, and every day since has sucked LOL.

I had the same issue on saturday am. Got out before the wind started. No birds ...very little bait . It seemed like even the bluefish were gone. I keep thinking that the water temperature is still pretty warm and that it will get going again but I am starting to worry.

Was out friday with the same results, was the only window i saw with no wind. These dominant NW winds lately really make frustrating Sandy hook bay that was producing really well 2 weeks ago. Ran out of Atlantic Highlands Marina, to Sandy point, down to Shrewsbury rocks to Breezy to coney to NY harbour to schoolie hangout island- back to sandy bay- Nothing but a headache and a seasick dog. No bait fish and all the birds were sitting on the beach.

It's not good. This week is a blow out. There may be a window of opportunity on Sat but where the f___ are all the fish. It may just be too warm. We need another cold snap to start things going again.

If you look in the back bays along the sod banks there's plenty of stripers there.

J/Bay has been pretty slow. Take your kayak and fish the back areas of E. Atlantic Beach,Long Beach to Point Lookout the fish are there.

NY Lower Bay has also Been Devoid of any Action. The Boys Drifting eels inside the Bay & around the Islands have not had any luck since Saturday.
On Saturday a handful of Bass were caught 10 or 12 boats w/ +25 anglers = 6 Bass. The biggest fish was only 22lbs & 0 blues. It seem the fish have disappeared or have lockjaw ? Havenot seen a bird or breaking fish in over a week  Things have to get Better

Great report L2F.

I was out at the east end of LI Sound yesterday. Lot's of mini-bass 16-18inches, with a few around 20 and one "monster" 24incher.

I suppose it is a good sign for the future.......

Would have been great on the 8wt, but I was loaded for bear with my 10wt> Still fun though.

Look, let's face it. The Fall has been an inconsistent time for stiper fishing for many years now. Things are often different every year. Patterns keep changing. Perhaps the only consistent thing is the "herring run" at Montauk. The Spring nowadays is more predictable. You simply have to keep fishing to discover or run into "this year's" Fall patterns. Most likely there will be fish running through well on the South shore in the next month.

You simply have to keep fishing ;)

Truer words were never spoken.............I think I can fit that phrase into just about any topic related to "life lessons". :)

"work has been really tough this year, very stressed"
Answer: "You simply have to keep fishing"

"not getting along with the wife these days"
Answer: "You simply have to keep fishing"

"The traffic around here is getting horrendous!"
Answer: "You simply have to keep fishing"

"Crap, my stocks are down again"
Answer: "You simply have to keep fishing"

"Kids are driving me nuts!"
Answer: "You simply have to keep fishing"

hmmmmmm

Went to the back of Jbay again because I know it and it was 3am. One huge strike, then a lot of nothing.

I told you so. Go a little east and you'll find the stripers there.I was out today and caught plenty of them. It was also a little frustrating at times seeing a few really nice size fish on the flats that just didn't want to take a fly. But the fish are there.

OK Stan,
Appreciate the input. Is it hard to find places to launch a yak over there? Went to little neck bay this morning, nada again. Water a good bit cloudier then jbay. 53degree temp.
