The weather this past week was up and down and the Snook and Reds were on the move into the back country. There are still large schools of reds and small snook around the passes and in the cuts into the gulf. We found some monster reds in crystal clear water along the interior beaches and the conditions were very cool for fly fisherman willing to work for the right opportunity to sight cast these large reds over a sandy bottom. In addition we found some great action in the backcountry where several snook and reds were willing to feed in the middle of the day. It was the hells bay hopper and floating puglisi flies with foam that ruled the day. I think all fish came on the nine weight with floating lines. In addition we did some fishing on windy bays with the light tackle spinning rods and topwater mirror lures and had some great topwater action.

several of the small baitfish patterns that are made by enrico are now available in a floating version. Basically there are several small strips of foam in the fly to help give it floatation. I wiggles and wakes. It may not be in his catalog yet, I think the first time I saw these flies was last winter, and a few people were using them the winter before. If I had only one fly to throw at snook and reds these puglisi flys would be it. If Scott at the bears den in Taunton, Ma. does not have them call the guys at boca grande outfitters. I know they have hundreds of puglisi flies in stock.
