Has anyone been seeing the loons on the south shore this year? First time I have ever seen/heard them around here...very nice surprise.

We see them alot during late summer and into duck season around Plum Island Sound. Much bigger than you think they are, and are great to listen to.

I've been seeing them for the past three years at Breezy Point on the inlet side, four or five yesterday, always gives me a lift, which is helpful with no fish in evidence! Beautiful creatures.

Great to see loons on the north side of the Cape this year again, and finding them feeding is a consistent way to find stripers late in the season. The loons meant fish a week ago in Sandwich ... same two years ago as well.

There is a marsh across the street from my house behind another house. I have heard them at night. Pretty cool.

They are just showing up around LI in large numbers and will spend the winter hear and leave sometime in early spring
I think of them and all those sea ducks out there on those nights when the wind is howling and it about 10 out . they are here for the winter!!
In the words of Katherine Hepburn:
"The loons, Norman, the loons!"
