Hi All,

I live in England, and am planning a trip with a pal to Montaux next fall, probably mid September October Time.

We wish to fish exclusively fly from light tackle inshore boats, and having never visited Montaux before, can anyone please recommend guides plus contacts, for as you will all be well aware, a good guide can make a holiday, wereas a bad guide can ruin one, as I found out some years ago when I first started visiting the Keys, and Islamorada.

Any assistance in making my "rookie" trip to Montaux, a meomarable one will be very much appreciated.

Cheers

There's a fellow who guides Montauk who came from your side of the pond:
Capt. Matt Miller a fellow Brit. He visits this site so you may hear from him. There are many who do a great job but I've never fished with them. I'm sure others will post in.

I fish with Jim Levison, DoubleHaul Charters. He's plugged into the fishing out there, has a good solid boat (24' Parker) and has plenty of gear, flies etc.

Knows his stuff and has put me on many fish.

Just don't take my dates!! :brow

Matt Miller is one of the few guides I’ve not fished with, but my cousin and several friends have; and he is first rate. Other terrific Montauk guides are: Capt. Jim Hull (captainjimhull@aol.com), Capt. David Blinken (DBlinken@aol.com), Capt. Dino Torino, Capt. Amanda Switzer (SwitzerAC@aol.com), Capt. Robin Calitri (csicagain@hotmail.com), Capt. Ken Rafferty (captkenraf@hotmail.com), Capt. Brendan McCarthy (mctrout@nyc.rr.com), Capt. Bryan Goulart, Capt. Paul Dixon (631-329-6186), Capt. Ernie French (ernief@optonline.net). I’ve lost Torino's, Dixon’s and Goulart’s email addresses, but just do a Google search and they’ll pop right up. I’ve probably left out a couple, not intentionally. If so, I apologize. Pretty hard to find a bad Montauk guide.

I'd contact Jim Levinson or Amanda Switzer

Hi All

Thanks very much for all of your help on this one, and as the same names keep cropping up, i can now go about booking my trip with confidence.

It also gives me confidence to know that it is difficult to find a bad guide at Montauk, for this certainly is not the case at some other placesc I've been such as Islamorada, the Bahamas, etc., for whilst you you gain experience and eventually sort it out, that initial trip anywhere, is always a worry.

Thank you all once again
Cheers
