Once again skipped work, Tuesday 12/12/06 Right away ran into schoolie stripers all over NY Harbor. Jigged well over 125 + Called a freind who left work, met me at ramp and caught @25 schoolies in 2 hours and went back to work. Out of all those fish only saw 2 with some of the white sore spots. 1 had a HRF yellow belly tag. Tagged 6 myself. Here's a few pics, 2 are stripers with tags before release, and one of friend holding schoolie. Once again nothing bigger than 26" but lots of action and fun!

Luv 2 Fish Glad to see your still catching.
Bass ( schoolie to 22") have been up all over the Coney Island Flats & Breeze Point. They seem to be there all days regardless of time or tide. Fished Monday morning & it was non-stop action w/ no blues in the mix. Boat traffic has been very light so the fish stay put.
Bigger Fish out around Debs but its pretty hard to pass on a sure thing.
Good Fishing & Merry Christmas to All

any seals??
yeah. one swam off the beach at breezy point about 200 yards out, it was diving a few times then dissapeared minutes later.
what is attracting them to pay us such a visit?
of course, i love seeing nature and i dont care where i encounter it, as long as i feel part of it.

You won't be saying that about the seals when and if they ever move in big time. The Outer Cape is loaded with them and the surf fishing for bass has taken a huge hit because of it...

I personally have NOT seen any seals lately, I'm on the water about 50 times a year. Haven't seen a seal in over 4 years. Used to be 2 that hung around NY Harbor.

i guess we'll have to adapt then. just like all the other animals.

Do you fish dgrepo? Eventually Great Whites will move inshore and adapt by taking both the seals and on rare occasion, us. I'm sure there will be an incident in the cape sometime in the near future. I like nature and welcome this potential hazard.

i like nature as well and the potential hazards are what keep me going out, otherwise i would be playing video games

markz,
i do fish, as much as i can and not as much as i work. someday that may be different.
kmodi,
i agree with you. if fishing were as safe as living in a bubble, then i wouldnt fish. its the challenge of man and nature that lures me into the wilderness, even if its the concrete jungle!
to everyone else,
we all hate to see good things come to an end, but the end is just the beginning of another good thing to come. life feeds on life, feeds on life, feeds on life.
so i remain optimistic even if the seals arrive in greater numbers, they are just hungry like us, and are nomadic if the food supplies arent available in one area. just like us.
what i want is for my kids to be able to enjoy nature, in whatever form it may come, without having to sell their souls to have access to it.

I saw a harbor seal lounging around off Bostwick point on Gardiner's Island a few weeks ago. Had my 5-year old daughter with me--she loved it.

Coincidentally I saw a seal bobbing as I drove across the Loop Pkwy bridge today.

Fished the Gut with a buddy two weeks ago.
saw a pair of seals.
I'm told that is not uncommon this time of year.
