Boat motor regulations??

There are restrictions on horse power limits on many ponds and lakes in the sate of MA. My question is can you have a boat with a motor the exceeds the ponds limit but leave it up out of the water and just use the trolling motor?

The Quabbin makes you take off the prop of the big motor.

That is a very good question and probably better asked to the town where the body of water is located. A lot of those limits are set by the governing authority of the body of water. I was fishing Sheeps in Brewster this fall and was surprised by a guy in a boat with an engine on it much larger than the limit but he had it tilted up and was strictly using the trolling moter. This had never occurred to me prior to that.

I heard that residents with waterfront property can have larger engines on their boats, not sure if this is true.
