View Full Version : Florida Information Needed
My in-laws recently relocated to The Villages, near Ocala, FLA. The wife and I are going to heading down for a visit sometime around the beginning of March and, of course, the fishing gear is coming along as well. They're been bragging about all the golf courses in the immediate area which has me thinking of getting out early and fishing these ponds for some LMB...However, I remain a saltwater guy at heart and would like to get some thoughts on which direction to head (eat or west) and some general locations that would be worth exploring from my kayak.
Any information is appreciated!

From the Ocala area, you have at least three super kayak/fly locations to visit: two east, one west.
East, look at the Jacksonville area and the north end of the Indian River/Mosquito Lagoon system.
West, check out Cedar Key.
All three offer good redfishing, plenty of seatrout (spotted weakfish) and all the other fighters like jack crevalle and ladyfish. Heck, Cedar Key might even put you onto a cobia! (Boy, would I ever love to see a kayak flyfisherman tied into a 30-40-50 pound cobia!)
Check out the regional forums at FloridaSportsman.com.
