Thanks for Vote of Confidence Chris (shortfin), and I look forward to fishing with you gus again some day. I have been picking people up on Sanibel & Captiva Island for the last 8 years. I try not to do any 4 hour charters down that way unless I am able to book another one that same day. The irony of this is that many times the area that I am fishing is usually very close to the islands. In addition, if I do pick up on Sanibel or Captiva I charge and extra $50. Most guides in the Fort Myers area do the same thing because of the time it takes to run out there and back. If you have driven on Sanibel during Feb, Mar, April the traffic can be terrible. I don't even like to drive down to the fort myers area anymore. In addition many people who come to the island on vacation with the family rent a single car and if they are picked up on the island they can leave the rent a car with the rest of the family...

First you need to ask yourself :

What type of guide ? What type of fishing ? There are several different types of guides in Southwest Florida and many, many good ones. There are guides like myself that run shallow running flats boats that cater to fly and light tackle fisherman. There are guides that run larger center console boats that can easily accomidate 4,5 or 6 anglers that usually cater to bait fisherman, and there are larger boats that head out into the Gulf and fish for Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, sharks, Kings, and Bonito. There are even a few guides that guide out of kayaks these days and will supply everything you need to learn how to stalk redfish in super shallow water in a kayak.

My with and I had a great experience a few years ago (in March) with Capt. Jim Burnsed.

Had a great trip with him last March. A.M. I fished solo- missed a red, caught a trout, lost a snook- the couldashouldawoulda Slam! Also had a pod of MONSTER jacks that stayed just out of range (we were wading and the spinning rods were in the boat). Then, we picked up my 2 kids and ate lunch on the beach on N. Captiva, then slayed Spanish and King macs all afternoon. Going back again! --127-3-
Thanks Joe.
