....if you don't go.

Decided to try something a little different, (something other than Stripers) this past Sunday. Dropped the boat in at Rudee inlet in Virginia Beach, broke the inlet before sunrise and kept heading due east out into the Atlantic. Made it to one of our spots that had been productive for Mahi, threw out the anchor and the chum bag and waited.........and waited.........and waited. Nada, nothing. I was hoping for Gorilla Blue Fish, or sharks since we have had some warm weather, and fish are still moving down the coast. Caught two dogfish on a bait rod I had out incase something was lurking below us. Listened to the trolling fleet working the mouth of the bay and northward, sounded like they were having a slow bite on the stripers and were leep frogging each other northward trying to find the bite. Visibility was great, although we didn't see any birds working the whole way out or back in.

We knew it was a morning window weather, so as the NE wind started picking up, we decided to make the run back in. Timing was just right, because it was just at the edge of comfortable for running. I thought for sure we would get boarded/questioned by some kind of police agency on our run back in, because we were coming in from way outside the EEZ and would have to explain what, why, where we had been doing. Nope, just ran right on in. Didn't really see anyone the whole time. Saw 2 boats running offshore, I assume for deep dropping on wrecks, and a commercial gill netter on our way back in.

Was it a waste to try? Nahhhhh, we couldn't have figured out anything just sitting on the couch, or doing the same ole. Still might have to try some other spots if we get another pretty day. I still think there is a fishery there during the winter, it just has a lot of variables that haven't been figured out yet.
