Are these two reservoirs connected in anyway? And if so, do some of these species move back and forth between the two bodies of water?

I'm not certain but I think that wachusett gets water from the Quabbin through the aqueduct at the Quinapoxett river and gives water to Lake Cochituate (SP?) from the route 70 aqueduct.Primarily water supply for Boston. People do say that fish from the Quabbin do come down the aqueduct.

Thanks for the replies. A follow up question is that I've heard rumors of occasional lake trout in the Sudbury Res. Assuming this is true (I have my doubts), would the said connection from the Wachusetts to the Sudbury be responsible for that or is just a case of some isolated incidences of folks planting these fish?

I grew up in Marlboro, my cousins in Southboro. They used to fish the open channel that kcpedaley is talking about, and yeah, they had some interesting catches over the years so I guess some fish do move down the aquaduct.

There is an aquaduct that spills into the Sudbury Res. Right off Rte. 9 in Southboro. It is downstream from the dam. Howerer, there are also turbines (not hydroelectric) and "sifters", so any poor soul of a fish that would find its way through, would get severely beaten, if not chopped up... But hey, stranger things have happened! Last year I caght and quicky released an atlantic salmon on a popper near plumb Island sound...
That brings back a memory, of shortly after the September 11 attacks back in 2001, I scouted around the lower Quinny near the oakdale dam and notices a NOXIOUS smell. After walking up closer to the dam, I notied dead lake trout and salmon all over the place, in some places, chopped in half. Worrying that the water got contaminated by a terrorist attack (the atmosphere at the time, hence the temp closing of the area to the public)... after checking with the MDC, they informed me that fish from the Quabbin aquaduct must have "slipped through" the turbines...ie, quabbin>>>>>watchusett.
That would certainly be a horrible demise for anything!!

I've fished the open section in southboro quite a bit over the years. Back in the seventies just below a small dam off parkerville rd. I hooke a trout but lost it trying to lift it up over the metal fence. I was very excited but disapppointed in losing it since I figured no one would believe I caught a trout there. Next cast into the foam at the base of the dam and I caught a second fish. Never caught another one. I also feel the over all fishing has declined in that body of water. Used to get be decent bass fishing.
