Looking a for a little feedback here. My girlfriends father is shopping for a new boat to dock in the canal in his backyard in Sanibel (lucky bastard). Anyways he saw a Center Console Cobia he liked and asked me what I thought. I told him I would ask around and get back to him. I found that they were recently bought by Maverick from Yamaha and seem to be a nice middle of the road boat. Nothing too fancy, but stll pretty nice.

Just looking for any opinions from anyone who has owned or still owns one that was made since Maverick took control. Again this is not my chioce of a boat but his, so I am just asking about the quality of the brand not what else he should buy.

Thanks,
Mark

I've been on a buddies 214CC a few times and thought it was a fine boat. You hit the nail on the head:

"Nothing too fancy, but stll pretty nice"

It is relatively heavy for a small boat and has a 20 degree hull so the ride is decent but she tends to run bow high. This makes runs through Buzzards Bay slop a little more bouncy than they need to be. He is installing tabs to correct the problem and wishes he would have had the forsight to have them factory installed.

I've fished a Cobia for three seasons and found it to be a very solid boat. Well put together, and a good layout for fishing both inshore and near offshore. I owned a 224 and found it to have a pretty good ride in offshore swells however I agree with Go Fish, the ride is not great in chop. I generally trim the bow down in anything bigger than a couple feet. PM me with any specific questions.

The nice thing about the cobia was I never had to deal with any significant problem. While it wasn't anything spectactular, it was well put together, and not having to deal with any problems is a beautiful thing in the boating world.
