With the low tides in the early AM and great incoming water in the middle of the day we started around 10:00 am. This is always risky but it gets better once you have a parking spot and get off the boat ramp. Today the boat ramp was totally nuts. I always enjoy a little boat ramp caos, but I was ready to go this morning and there were old people with broken down boats and all sorts of problems all over the place at Placida. When you are used to leaving the boat ramp in the early morning you quickly realize there is a whole different crowd of people who launch after you and leave before you get back...

Anyhow most of the boats were not headed into shallow water today because the tide was so low, so we jacked up and held our breath as we headed into the backcountry in the Action Craft 1890 fully loaded, no problem. Today was 15 MPH from the southwest so we went with the light tackle spinning rods. We started fishing with spoons and got no love, I switched it up to one of those little spook jr's I did so well with last winter (red and white) and got smoked on the first good cast. I switched up the other rod to a yellow one and we worked the shorelines for three hours while the tide was cranking in. We hooked up 12-15 reds to 12 lbs. and lost a mother. As well we got quickly broken off by a large Snook that explodes on the red and white in 10 inches of water. Fishing is pretty darn good these days.
