Hi guys and gals.
I'm offering my services as Swapmaster for a saltwater species fly swap. Blues, Albies, SBFT, Striper, Bonito etc... Whatever you like tying up for this genre.
I'll need 11 other Reel-Timers to get involved so we'll have an even dozen for our group. This swap will follow the guidelines set in place by Dave Churbuck. Check it out in the Fly Swap FAQ sub forum. Just reply to this post if you want in, and I'll PM you back to confirm.
Thanks,
BillyD

Thanks for getting on board with the swap. I'll get you my mailing address via PM soon. BTW I'll be tying some Crease fly's. (very fishy looking) . I didn't mention this but I'm thinking about March 6 or so, to get the flies mailed back to the group. How does that work for you both? If you wish, you can reply with a pattern that you'll be doing up. Hope to hear from some more peeps soon. As far as works of art goes... This isn't a beauty pagent. ;)

Thanks for joining in.

Ok I use powerpro, shag rugs, and my dog for fly tying supplies so if that bothers anyone I will duck out. Otherwise I like to tie black clousers and this wooly bugger thing that looks like a squid (I hope). I am pretty sure none of my flies look like each other, and none look like anything from any books. I stole my vice from a flytying class, and they were happy to be rid of it. Other than that, I am in?

I see you come with dubious credentials  I must confess that I have also sized up my dogs tail with a Clouser in mind :brow . Do the buggers have weighted eyes? They sound great. Can I pencil you in for a dozen those? If thats ok?

Flatwingflinger's talking trash. Let's see if he can back it up?

Ok, its getting down to the wire... If there's a ? by you I need you to get back on the board and confirm your fly. Pronto! All participants with a :) have been PM'd with the mailing address. In advance "I and sorry if you where one of the first to get on and where replaced by another. Unfortunatly that's a Swapmaster call. Once the 12 spot is taken I will wait 2 days from that time for all to commit. Any that haven't complied, they will be removed. Those open spots will be taken by posters that have thier fly determined in order of posting.

12 is taken. I'll be back in 2 days to finalize the group.
I'll be taking a few posters for alternates Please have your choice determined to be considered. As of this post I can take 4 alternates.
Apparently the format can't deal with 12 of these :)
So we need to make a change in the list. No --123-3 = you're good to go.
I'm still looking for March 6 as my mail back date. I'll be starting my ties soon.
OT... I'm thinking we've got a nice contrast in flies here. :brow

But 12 flies? My mutt is going to look down right mangy. Oh well sacrifices can be made. TEAM FIRST!

They have tungston eyes, so yeah they sink. I fish them early spring in the woods hole and nobska rips, so they have to get down. Actually I was going to use old spark plugs for eyes, but I needed the plugs for my boat (joke.)

Wooly Squid? Squid bugger? How about P-town tickler? (I think bugger is british for butt pirate). Um, maybe better call em "Egg sucking squid."

John Winger: Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us together, forget it. I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I'm gonna volunteer my leadership to this platoon. An army without leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Sergeant Hulka is always gonna be here to be that big toe for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy, and big toe... Sergeant Hulka.

Well, here you have it...
You have all recieved the mailing address on a PM.
The target mail back date is March 6, so try to get them in by then.
As the saying goes "$hit Happens" so post if you're having a problem meeting the target date. I have 1-1/2" by 6" individual plastic sleeves that I can put your returned flies in if I get them boxed or bagged loose. I'm excited on a few levels here. First, to your credit this whole thing came together pretty smooth. It appears we have a diverse selection of flies, as well as experience. Lastly we put together the first swap of 2007.
Let's get it on!

Inter office mail doesn't require postage last time I checked. However I still believe each of us is responsible for 12 ties, unless you want one of your own flies back. Well, It's an hour before kickoff. So, I'll call it a day at the vise (more like a 1/2 day) I'm putting my heart and soul into these bad Larry's. I must admit I'm not a prolific tyer, so with 12 flies there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.
The Crease fly was shown to me by George Sprague.
Here's a materials list of mine (soon to be yours)
Hook- Mustad 34011 size 3/0
Thread- black flat mono cord
Tail- Gliss'n Glow (olive)
Rattle- large glass 2 bead
Body- 2mm release back sheet foam
Silver leaf
Silver paint caligraphy pen
Sharpie markers
Ultra fine crystal glitter (gold)
2 part clear epoxy
Prizmatic 3-D eyes

OT. I hope its gonna be a good game.

I don't know how official this can be because, we're not going to cut anyone off for being a little tardy. I was shooting for a March 6 mail back date for me.
I won't be able to send them out any sooner because I'm in FL. from Feb 24 -Mar 3. My son will be at home during that time to recieve any flies and place them in a secure spot in our home.
I have a table set up in my den/fly tying room, to store and sort the incoming,.

Billy, I sent you a PM early this morning. As expected, I pushed right up to the deadline but got the flies out. They should arrive at your house tomorrow.

And thanks for not calling me out in public as a procrastinating slack-@ss. ;)

Not only the first to sign up, the first to talk trash. I didn't "crap out" and send in any store bought flies. Put your fur and feathers where your mouth is.

Do you guys need a fill in? If so by when do you need the flies. This is a saltwater fly swap right? Also how many?

BillyD

Hardtail
We have a young fellow in the swap who has not posted on the RT board since 02/15/07
As I write this, I'm waiting on my Sat. mail delivery. If the cupboard is still bare this afternoon, I may have to make a Swapmaster type decision on his status.
So anyway Hardtail  I'm going to ask you this without making any promises. How soon +/-could you have 12 Saltwater flies in the mail.

no correspondance from Flatwingflinger?
one would hope there would be an answer either way. (#$119)

He hasn't posted sine 2/15, but he last logged on to RT this past Tuesday according to his profile. It's one thing to be late if you give folks a heads up, but a comple blow off is not cool.

If he's bailed on us the easiest thing to do would be to just drop him but still return 12 flies to each tyer, including one of his own flies. Then again, hardtail has posted some tasty looking flies....Your call Billy, I'm cool with whatever you decide. Aren't you glad you're the swapmeister? :brow

either way is fine Billy.
Let's not let the spirit of the swap be spoiled. I'm looking forward to seeing the flys you guys have offered! I'm sure they will all be great --127-3-

Swapmaster, I cast my vote go to the bench. I only caught three hold over s today and the fly still looks good enough for the week coming.
Its your call.

I've spent some time thinking about options for the group. Calling it a game at 11 flies among others.
I would prefer that Flinger chimes in on us with an ETA and a good alibi ;) and finish as planned. However, Hardtail offers his skills  In brief. I'm a bit anal in keeping with the number we started with. Thus, would rather postpone the dole out date for someone who was a late arrival to the group. Rather than for one that has show disregard for it. I think we're all anxious for a resolution. So lets see if Flinger can respond, or if Hardtail can get back to us by 10 Sunday morn with a reasonable mail out date.
The SwapMaster's decision is final!
Mainly because, I hold all the flies at this time :brow

Congratulations to all 11 tiers that participated. You will all receive 12 flies back in the mail this week. Each dozen will include 2 flies from someone other than yourself at random. I'll take any further questions or comments via pm. It was a pleasure hosting the swap.
Regards and best of luck,

Excellent, now going to the mailbox each day this week will be like Christmas morning! --127-3-

Hey Billy, I was shopping for some flatwing saddles online and saw that you just posted a proposal for yet another fly swap on a forum hosted by a popular RI surf/fly shop. You, sir, are a glutton for punishment! :-%

In the words of Peggy Lee
"Is that all there is" (To a fly swap)

I'm working the bugs out of a Striper/Bluefish/SBFT fly, I've been messing with lately. Don't laugh about a fly for bluefish  I know when one isn't happy with the way a fly turns off the vise. They might say "Good enough for a bluefish" But the pattern I'm working is definetly a multi-funtional fly. :brow So as far as another swap goes... I was expecting to spin up those instead of the Crease I did here.
Everyone will have their package this week, as I'm hitting the PO today.

I for one would be delighted if you kept the extra fly that is coming my way.

I was tipped extremely well :brow That's appriciation enough. Allthough, ;) I do know someone who would've liked to get their own fly back instead of 2 of anothers  "We can have our own flies without joining a swap" I say!. I need to address 2 more packs when I get home and then it's 5 min. to the PO. You'll all have them before weeks end.

I got lucky :) You guys at Reel-Time are by far the best group that anyone could hope to assemble. To my knowledge, there isn't a site on the east coast that has the resources/intrest for someone like me :brow to pull off a Fly Swap like we did. The only thing I can claim credit for is  possibly not screwing the mail backs to much. Everthing else is on you guys, you made it happen. Let's do it again in 2008 --127-3-

And special thanks to our swap master BillyD. If you show up around here I owe a beer and will do my best to put you on some cows.

I will try to post on here as to what happens to each of the flies, and how well they fish. I noticed lots of green, which I will fish early morning. Smaller ones early season, bigger ones late. Maybe get some pics up if I can get my act together.

My pink squid buggers are useful when those april/may squid show up. I usually throw them from a boat with a 400 grain on a 10 wt in heavy current (woods hole, middle ground), but they should also work from shore with an intermediate. I usually try to make long slow strips, but whatever works! Thanks again and I will keep this thread updated.

Me and my boys spent the morning today playing hooky from work and school. After a great morning charter with Capt. Dave Peros out of Barnstable Harbo, we hit Scorton's to fish the incoming. The boys kept themselves busy with small sluggos and I got to break out the fly rod and some of the flies from this winter's swap.

First up was Jim Miller's baby bunker hybrid. First cast into the creek and I was tight ! That fly looks even better in the water than it does in the fly box! After six more fish I lost the fly, boy was I pi$$ed, should have cut the leader back after the first few. Jim, that was one sweet tie!

After that I went to my striper dragon. Lost one eye after just a few casts but still did OK, another half dozen fish on the dragon. After that it was time to hit the road, can't wait to get into the other flies from the swap!
