I am buying a pflueger fly rod and a pflueger reel. Is the rod decent or should i get a different rod. I am lookeing for an 8 wt. 9ft under $150.
Do you have any suggestions or know anything about the rod. What are some other good fresh water fly rods that are 7-8 wt.
thankss..

try looking at temple fork outfitters i bought an 8wt last year and fished stripers all summer long with it a great rod for $99. their warranty is lifetime if you break the rod send it back no questions asked they send you a new one.
Check out Lower Forty in Worc. They are having a GREAT sale on TFO demos. Full warranty and sock. I bought one, and saved enough to buy a nice reel and line. ;)

picked my 1st fly rod just a month ago cheap @ Cabelas:
St Croix Premier. 9' 8wt
$49.99 ( Orig $120) must have hit it right because the next day it was $80-
the reel was a bargain too.

I'd skip the Pfleuger and look at something else. Here's a few in that price range:
St Croix (I have 3 and highly recommend them!)
Redington
Cortland
TFO

Go to www.cabelas.com and click on "bargain cave". In the fly fishing section of the "bargain cave" they're currently listing a Redington Crosswater rod, 9' for 7/8 weight, at $29.00. Can't beat that. They also have deals on St. Croix Premiers, but the heavier rods are already sold out.

Go to www.echoflyfishing.com and take a look at their rods. The classic is a great rod for short money. Steve Rajeff and his brother Tim (world distance casting champion) formally the designers for G Loomis have a hit on their hands.
The Echo 2 is one step, sorry “2 Tips” ahead of the competition.

I have an 3-4yr old 8wt plueger, its too soft to use a shooting line, and its heavy, feels like your casting a 10wt by the end of the day. TFO makes some nice rods with a great return policy when you break it.

I'm ready to go! My OLD Orvis "far and fine" got stolen out of my car, and didnt feel like blowing another 300 (plus) bucks to get a rod/reel/line combo.
Here is what I have for my all-round "trout-fit" this year
---Sage FLI (4wt) 7.5ft
---Rio WF / F 4wt line
---Cabelas CSR(1) Reel
Those three things above should get me anywhere from crazy-small brookie streams like Gulf Brook, (I cant tell you exactly where, call Todd Richards at Mass Wildlife) all the way up through chucking weighted nymph rigs/indicators in the Miller's Bears-Den for monster browns... to "remote" ponds in New Hampshire. Im stoked! --126-3- --126-3- It is mid February, and although the forcast says snow, my mind is telling me #18 stonelies in the Nissitissit!!! --127-3- --127-3- --127-3-
Oh yeah, the entire outfit (after I nail-knotted on a 5X 7.5 ft leader) was about 250 bucks! Not bad for a fast-action, high performance rod. I plan on losing a bunch of flies to the overhangs in which I'll be in this year, so plenty of 5X tippit is in my vest also.
Ive been going over my topo maps, tying up barbless nymphs and wet-flies, and I'm REELING TO GO. --125-3 --125-3 --125-3
Is it time to start posting reports yet!
