Tied this up the other day, I know the hook is a little small for thebody but it was just to give them a shot. I may use them for large mouth, it has close to the same hook gap as some of my top water plugs

I didn't think this was a boilermaker. Maybe I am wrong, I thought it was mylar tubing, with craft fur on the top and bottom?

Jamie Boyle created (I think) a fly called the Boylermaker. I'll try to post a pic of one later today. It's a matchstick-like pattern tied with tubing.

Regardless I'm sure your popper will create a few boils too.

Try a hook with a bigger gap though.

A Boylermaker...

I really like that fly. :brow Where could I get a recipe for it?

Bob,
It's just what it looks like
Flashabou inside EZ body
Craft fur on the top and bottom
Epoxy or goop to cover the eyes.

It's an easy, productive, non-fouling fly.
Effective simplicity. :)

I have found they work a bit better with the tail flash shorter than shown.

I have had good luck tying the same fly with some marabou in the tail instead of the flash as well.

I've always seen those foam bodies sold as "boilermakers" too.
