Near North Conway?

Informed by the admiral this weekend we are spending a week up in North Conway this summer in late July Aug.

Anybody got any info on the Saco etc for that time of year? Other small "secret" spots for brookies.

Fishing time will either be early morning or evening. (In between Storyland etc runs).

Thank in advance. -P

its a local little shop right in conway, i think. i stopped in their last year (first week in september) to buy a license, they pointed me in the right direction. The Ellis fished very well. Hope this helps.

Also, if you have the time and interest the Saco has some great smallmouth action just over the border in Maine.

Can you trout fish in NH right now? I thought they closed all their trout waters until the season opens (April 1???).

I believe NH season runs January 1- October 15.

Another place to look at would be the Andro up near Gilead ME ( and the Wild River up into Evan's Notch) Also, just over the hill the Wild Aloomoosuc ( by the MT. Washington Hotel) can fish pretty well- also a beautiful stream.

In addition to the rivers mentioned above, I would also recommend checking out the Wild River, which enteres the Andro just below the ME line downstream of Gorham. It has very nice hike-in fishing for brook trout and is a lot closer to Conway than the upper Andro.

Have fun,
ND

Going in July/Aug 07.

No worries about season being open. More wories about water levels and temps.

Dude, grab a topographic map, and fish pretty much any brook in the white mountain national forest. Rte 112 (Kangamangus Hwy.) is a good starting point. Tie up / buy some elk hair caddis dries (or hoppers in the late summer) and you will clean-up. The admiral will also enjoy the scenery ;)

In general, water levels in most freestone streams can be dicey in August. Best thing is to study a topo map:
http://www.topozone.com/states/NewHampshire.asp?feature=Stream
and look at stream gradient. The higher the gradient, the better (to a point of course unless you like fishing vertical) But, again, I wouldnt worry... just enjoy the area! Its awsome up there!! ((oh yeah, get a three day liscense, or better yet, get a full year and sneak out a couple days before you take off :brow

Like what was said allready. I would talk to Stephen at the Clearwater Fly Shop www.nhflyshop.com Stephen has a forum board that you can check out for up to date information. The funny thing is all the guy's up there come down to the saltwater for the stripers that time of the year! They are allways busting my chopps for not fishing the saltwater in my back yard they accuse me of being (#$119)

I wanna say that 2 summers ago the folks at the shop in North Conway sent me to a river that was literally under the road somewhere right before the Storyland entrance.......I caught a few nice ones there.......right at the bridge under the road.......that might even be "a drop the wife and kids and fish" type spot.....might even be able to walk to Storyland..........Sped
