Has anyone seen a schedule to the NEFMC April Meeting? Specifically the schedule for herring issues.

They finally posted the agenda for the meeting and unless I am missing something, I dont see any time scheduled for the USAP discussion. I hope that I am missing something because it was bad enough when they didnt discuss it in Portsmouth but if they push it off another 2 months that would be ridiculous.

I have contacted the Council and will let you know what they tell me tomorrow. If you want to look for yourself, go the link below and open the link for the April meeting.

Apperently the USAP discussion is going to be at the June meeting. While I am disappointed about the timing, it will be better for a lot of people who didnt feel like driving all the way to Mystic. The June meeting is in Portland, ME.

I still need to hear back from another Council person, I will let you know if I hear anything else.

Why Am I Not Surprised At This Move? The Insiders Of Asmfc Certainly Know How To Work The System To Make It More Difficult For Outsiders To Participate And Have Confidence They Are Doing The "people's" Business. We All Know Who's Business They Are Taking Care Of!!! Let's See - April Is Most People's Down Time And June Is Peak Season For Everyone. So, Who's Going To The June Me (#$119) Eting?

This Pelagics Committee meeting on thursday will really set the tone for the upcoming Council meeting in Portland in June. If they dont get anything pushed forward on thursday, it may not even be an issue at the June full Council meeting. That is why it is so important that we all send in comments before thursday and get to the meeting if at all possible.

The agenda has been revised to include USAP observer coverage on May 3rd meeting in Mansfield.

"6. Discuss whether the Council should require observer coverage on at-sea processors in the herring fishery and possibly make a recommendation to the Council on this issue."

Anyone heard about "American Freedom" going bankrupt and has left the country?

The initial story was that it was headed to South America, after not finding enough fish here to make money.

But most recently the word is that it is going to tie up in Boston until next fall, at which point it may either start fishing again here or perhaps go elsewhere. This thing is not out of our hair yet.
