Can you explain how to tie a bonecrusher? Tried google but came up empty.
Thanks

Yup ... not much info out there on how to tie it. I saw the pattern on L. Dahlberg's show and some info on his webpage. So I took a shot at it.
Tied very Gotcha like ... with one exception. The sililegs and bunny/artic fox wing is tied up like a "parachute" dry fly. this makes the wing stand perpendicular to the hook shank. Supposedly this make the fly more visible to the fish as the fly sits on the bottom.
Hope this helps! :-%
Jim,
I've had great success with Charlies with those rubber legs on them!!!

The bonecrusher is tied with a piece of lambswool clipped off the hide and tied in front of the dumbell eyes. You can tie in the legs with the same step. It is similar to tying it deerhair, but don't let it spin. Snip off the tuft of wool that remains just behind the hook eye and tease out the wing a little bit.

thanks for the details! btw: do you have a link to a step by step or receipe? Sure would beat my Forensic attempts! :-%
Dahlberg's show at the Seyshells (sp) was great, but his narrative on the "bonecrusher" was a little sketchy.

No, I remember seeing something on them years ago and I tied a few. It's a cool looking fly, easy to make, but I'm a fool for those silli leg gotchas.

are you going to the north or south of the island? they love pink puffs and bonefish specials up there. never been to the south island, i stayed at harbor island. is this your first time going (im new here so i dont know if ya posted any other posts on the forum)
just got back from grand bahama, it was so windy, it cooled the flats and turned the fish so much no one caught any the last day, kinda a bummer, oh well

Pink and orange Gotchas and Crazy Charlies, sizes 6-10, some weighted and some unweighted (for deeper or shallower water). Also Bonefish Specials, same sizes.

Jim:
We had great luck w/ pearl mylar gotcha w/ a bit of krystal f in a wing of shrimp kinky fiber. simple tie. big results.
I do need to remark that I believe if you can get your fly near w/out running em off, they'll eat it. This one works well because it's eyeless and enters quietly.

Thanks LL for the info! :-%
Last Summer I caught 90 % of my fish on a small cream crab pattern. I'm thinking that in the summer the shrimp are not so abundant. This was supported by the fact that I couldn't find any shrimp for sale at the docks by native fisherman. I just don't think shrimp were around in numbers.
But the bones were not hesitant to eat a crab!

the bahamas dont have the kinda shrimp we would eat or use for bait, just the little tiny ones the bones eat, the locals use hermit crabs( which is why the cream crab pattern worked, im guessing) or conch gook as bait for bonefish, the small shrimp im guessing wouldnt fit on a hook and are not worth eating or catching for bait.
