OBX, NC in April

I am heading down for a week in April to Avon, NC. I went down 4 yrs ago with the family and made one half day trip and did some surf fishing but I got stuck doing the tourist crap the rest of the time. This time I am heading down to go fishing. We have a house right on the water and I was planning on bringing some of my gear down with me.

What the best places to go? Baits? Plugs?
What kind of fish around?

Hi Folks - I am a Cape Cod Native making the scary trip over the bridge on family vacation first week in July to Avon, NC. I would appreciate any input on good beach fishing locations in the area and bait recommendations...ie plu=gs, live bait, etc...I will have 4 WD so as specific as you can be would be great help. Also may do 1/2 day inshore charter with couple other guys and sons, any recommendations for charter in the area, I'm not a fly guy so conventional/spinning rells are my thing, light tackel is good. Any help would be greatly appreciated...if you need insight on Cape Cod bay fishing just ask.
