Based on the nice weather predicted, and unlimited sun, I took today off, and hit several of the more popular trout UDL's in the Fal/Masspee area.
Very little to report. In fact, nothing at all besides cold feet and hands. Waded lots of shoreline, and make lots of casts, and saw not activity at all. Had occasion to talk to the local power bait crew in one spot, and they struck out as well.

On another note, I was very happy with the preformance of my new 5wt TFO.:brow I haven't thrown anything below an 8wt for years, and the rod handled a fast sinking line very well.

I have been having luck at deep pond. I got a bunch of hots at Hamblin but no hook up. But yes, thing are slow on the upper cape.

Probably going to take another 2-3 weeks before the fish start moving. Curious did you get a water temp?

I've heard a few reports of fish but everything has been sporadic. Flashy hardware and orange looking flies have been working the best...

Spoke with my brother yesterday and he said there was one gentleman fishing with a flyrod at Pimlico Pond and was catching many fish much to the dismay of the powerbaiters at that little so called ramp where they stock from. Other than that one positive report I have seen nothing.
Oh he was using a black beadhead on a interm. line very very slowly.
I am heading down tonight to give it a shot tomorrow.

FWIW, pond water temps last weekend on the outer Cape ranged from 41-44 depending on time of day. It's still fairly cold and the fish aren't moving to the bait/lure much, unless you happen to get right on a freshly stocked pod of them. I finally found them, but I had to do a lot of moving around to do it.

The time is rapidly approaching for my first trip for cape trout...
I plan on sneaking out to hit the Quashnet this weekend upsteam from Martin Road in Mashpee/Falmouth. This is C&R, unstocked (native) brookies/salters and the fishing is usually hit or miss. The Mashpee river itself is also chock-full. I actually got fish to shoot out from the undercut banks.....
Now get this... Last year, I was getting scores of fish VERY early in the "season". There was zero flies popping yet cleaned up on a #14 orange Stimulator!!! It was meant to be an indicator!!!!!

These small streams on the cape always amaze me with the sheer numbers of chars. --125-3 ... There is another similar stream in Wareham, the only complaint is the lack of kettle ponds nearby... If you want to opt out of that stream in Wareham; try the former... if you really have the hankering to walk, go upstream on the Quashnet all the way to Johns Pond, for some fantastic stillwater angling. Johns Pond has good holdovers, and nice smallmouths as a bonus....
I'm always amazed how under utilized trout on the cape are!!!

John's Pond is where I spent the most time today. The old Coast Guard beach area, right above the Quashnet. I was all alone, and had no joy.

Thanks for the temp readings. They will probably be laying on the bottom until that water gets into the 50's anyways...This cold weather forecasted through next weekend isn't going to help much. In the past I've had banner days as early as the middle of April, but not the last 3 years...

fwiw- I cruised 4 ponds from the mid-upper cape on Saturday. All of them were dead for fish activity, with the only activity being the masses of guys stumbling around the boat ramps. I didn't wet a line. I don't mind wetting a line when it's 45 degrees, but not when the fish aren't moving...
