Yesterday, I tried a near cape saltwater estuary for some holdovers and came away with all of one white perch (although I shouldn't complain since it was massive compared to what I normally pick up in freshwater)...

So today, I changed gears and spent the late afternoon/early evening going after trout at a big local lake in Natick (not that you can't guess what lake ;) ). The action wasn't killer...but at least I'm on the trout board. I caught one rainbow trout plus a pickerel on a small kastmaster then two sunfish once I switched to fly fishing. The weather went from nice to cold real fast....burr (my hands are still frozen). But at this time of year (first two trips of the year), any success is welcomed.

Earlier in the day, I had tried some Mystic River/Lake locations to no avail (was still trying for those holdovers).

I am with you on 'Anything is better than nothing' ... I think I am going to loose it soon if I can't get into some fish!

If you don't care about what particular fish you catch, just head upriver on the Charles until you get past watertown. There's some bass (both lg and smallmouth) to be had as we speak. While the largemouth can be in any section, the smallies are in the faster moving sections between Waltham and Watertown. I fished those spots often, even at this time of year, until I moved from Waltham to Framingham. Smaller pan fish as well as pike and carp are also 'good to go' now.

Otherwise, the lake I was referring to is about a half hour west of you going on the pike. I can pm directions if you're interested (not that the place is a big secret).
