Go Fish

Today was just to nice to waste so my lovely wife and I decided to go for a float. This is something we did together almost every weekend in the summer on some of the big rivers in Wyoming. Today we were on a decidedly smaller water way: The Assabet river in Hudson.
We went light in Loogie, our 12 foot jon boat: a bottle of water, an ultra-light spinning rod and a small box of micro jigs and spinners. After having to lay flat in the boat to get under the first bridge we were into fish. Salmonoids of some sort. By the size I would guess spent salmon brood stock...we are talking two foot fish...and we couldn't buy a bite.
The closest we came to taking a fish was good chase given by a six inch largemouth on an in-line spinner.
Half way through the float we pulled into an eddy and wakled across Main street to grab an ice cream at the Hudson Dairy Bar to enjoy on our way to the take out.
I had forgotten how much fun float fishing can be. It is nice to get out on the water without all the trappings of the big boat. Today was perfect. I got to go fishing, it was beautiful out and I got to spend some time with my honey.
I'm gunna try sneaking in there with waders and a fly rod some night this week and concentrate on the spots where we found the bigger fish. I think the boat spooked them today.
