Got the season started without April Fools mixed in. Fished the five-weight with an olive woolly bugger. Four fish: two rainbows (17-inch and 19.5-inch) and two of the fabled Landlocked salmon (19-inch and a big fat 21-inch). All released.
Let the games begin!

21 inch Salmon on a 5wt must have been quite a battle. Good outing

Should have included that this was in decent current anchored (safely, and with the option of cutting the anchor line if snagged...) in the kayak.
Bigger rainbow and bigger salmon were caught on consecutive casts (you want to see a bunch of guys encroach on your space, try catching two fish that size back-to-back on Opening Day!).
Funny thing was that I knew the second fish was a salmon the second it hit (on the retrieve and pretty close to the yak). But I misjudged it for a smaller silverside which was good because it kept my heart rate down for the first half of the battle.
Went out in Upton last night at dusk and caught a couple of stocked trout, but it's not the same. I must find a way to be kicked out of the house for about a month or so...corse by then, I need to get kicked from the house to trade to the 8-weight and chase the stripers.
Damn I wish I didn't love my wife and kids!

Good going!
Went down to my usual opening day spot and saw a bunch of fly guys walking around with their head in
their hands. Not a fish to be found. The water flow was
a little slow out of the big lake and the suckers hadn't shown yet which usually triggers the spring run. Maybe after this rain...

Winni still has a few weeks left. The cold weather this week isn't going to help. Check the link below for some recent photos from Alton Bay
