I am trying to do more freshwater fishing this year, and the mystic river is right next to me. can anyone tell me how it is for a largemouth bass fishery? Id aslo like to know what the striper run is like, i imagine they chase herring up to the mystic lakes. When does that run start, as opposed to any holdovers there may be there? I fish the mystic lakes as well, but when its windy my boat gets blown around, the river looks like a good alternative for windy days.

and yes, I know you cant take herring.

I will be fishing the river from the wellington circle ramp up to and into the lower nystic lake.

Can someone tell me what the ramp is like and exactly where it is?

thanks guys.

It is a comparatively poor fishery. There are LMBs there and they can get large, but your catch rate will be lower than other local stuff. Spy or upper mystic are better bets.

The river has much more LMB habitat than the lake. The lake is so deep that it doesn't have enough productive water. Some smallies in there too.

It's not a great fishery. The striper run in the lower sections isn't bad, but the largemouth fishing is at best mediocre. The lower mystic lake isn't anything special either. The best thing about it may be the carp fishing.
