Took the porta-bote out for its maiden voyage with the kids (3 and 5). Didn't fish too hard but I did tool around the pond and didn't see too much on the fish finder. The water temp was 43 (45 in the little bay across the lake). We hung around for a while and I saw 1 person catch a trout at the ramp. It was definitely not on fire. This may be a silly question but did they stock White's yet? How about Walden?
Oh well. I had a blast with the kids and the boat works great. I have a 53lb thrust trolling motor and the thing really moves.
Any thoughts? Thanks. Matt.

It was stocked a couple of weeks ago. However, I think more stockings are due. Was the one fish you saw caught taken on bait or lure? I think the fish are just sluggish right now and your answer to my question will be one more piece of evidence to that. Even with trout standards being cooler water, I think we still need a warm up anyway.

Definitely bait secured by a heavy weight and no action- not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not my thing. We fished flies with split shot on our lightweight spin gear (a new pink barbie zebco might have got a hit). As stated the water was a chilly 43. I tried to dig up some worms with the kids but no such luck.
The real tell-tale sign is that the 1mm sunfish that roam the shallows of White's, the one's that make dads heroes, are no where to be seen yet. We just need like 3 warm days to kick start this action. Cheers. Matt.

43 degrees? It's a miracle. I've been getting reports of 37degree temps down the cape. Guys our catching fish though. Up until this weekend all I heard was of people getting fish off the bottom, metal guys and fly guys weren't getting anything. I received a reliable report from some guys trolling on Friday. They got a couple fish including and a nice salmon at one of the bigger ponds. I guess the fish are starting to move...
