Beautiful fly Jim!:brow I have trouble tying those really big patterns.

Question. What did you use to form the head. Sotftex, epoxy, or something else?

Thanks Bob.
The fly is tied with the tail and belly secured to the hook shank. Then a "buffy" like EZ body spreader near the front with additional material secured over the spreader with goop and tied in at the eye. This provides a veil over the tail section. Eyes are secured and the head receives a epoxy coating. :-%
BTW: also tied some with tail section of saddle hackles and bucktail belly... then the cone spreader and veiling.
Should be tied on a bigger gap hook .... I experimented w/ a 2/0 .... will try a 4/0 - 6/0 next.

Jim, I am working on some Pacific Herring patterns. It would be really helpful if you could post a photo of the version with the saddle hackle included. I like the movement imparted by the hackles. Thanks for your help. Steve

Hey Jim,
Any chance you could put up some tying instructions for that one especially on using the easy body. I tried it last night but my rookie skills could not do it justice. Ill post a picture later so you guys can make fun of it.
Thanks,
Shane
