FYI - I tip I've learned is that if you have radar ... let it warm up for at least 10 minutes for each month it was shut-off before you go for a scan. This conditions the magnatron unit which generates the microwaves, as they need to be eased back into service. A magnatron PhD, if you can imagine there's such a thing ;) , who is a boater taught me this.
Edit: This does not apply to new units, but ones in service with a winter lay-over. Anyway, can't hurt ...
