Thanks Jim.... but I fear they would chew the poor thing up, I hope to find some Striper who's teeth are a little gentler..

zippy - looks great, should slay em.
Curios if you could put one together that would get you neutral boyancy without making it to heavy.

I think if I used a heavy hook or glue a nickle in the middle of the layers of foam

Anyway you could get one of those to swim?

not sure but it is basically a crease fly so with a sinking line it may just swim but it is bouyant acording to the sink test (filling the sink with water) But when I was thinking about making a new fly I wanted to do a fly that would lay on it's side like they wounded or dead peanuts attacked in a blitz. I could add some weight but they would be a biatch to cast unless you had somthing bigger than a 10 wt. I bet with a large 8/0 tuna hook they would swim and also catch some tuna :brow

The only fly I've seen that I think is what your looking for was a body similar to yours or a crease fly, where the hook came out of one side of the body. That is,
the hook was perpendicular to the water, while the body layed parrallel to the surface. When it was stripped, the body stayed parallel to the surface.
I think Joe Blados improvised his Crease fly just changing the hook location and I heard first hand how well it fished but haven't seen it since?

My original thought was to have the hook out the side more towards the tail and the eye out the other side closer to the middle of the body and it would dive when stripped, the head acting like a lip on a lure and would flutter back to the surface when paused.... I still may give that one a go
I have a little more refined one on the wheel now and will post some pics when it's dry
