Nice! :)
question on the hot colors. Any time of year (spawning) better than others to use bright scheme? And... do you think it will work in July in Eleuthera? :brow

Have you ever tied a General Practitioner in those colors? I bet it would work for a change of pace.

I must admit that I use 2 flys these day for bones...the dread shrimp 90% and when the winds are blowing over 20mph or the water is deep I will use a clouser...my idea of a change of pace would be weighted against unweighted of the same fly...if I were to try another pattern and the bone didnt take I would immediately blame the fly and totally bum out about the missed opportunity as I tend to take it personal...cant change a success rate when its at a peak...the reason I posted the pics of fly was because I get lots of PM's concerning it....I am not implying its the only pattern that will work but until it actually fails me I wont even experiment

Nice looking fly and I'm sure that it's been effective for you.
Just to poke a bit of fun at your initial post...I'm not sure I'd want to hook or even walk the same flat as a "triple-digit" bonefish. You'd need at least 1,000yards of backing...100lb tarpon are tough enough on a fly...he he!!!
Again, cool fly

the pics have been DELETED...myfishingpictures.com did this to me...lots of work to retake and post...maybe a picture a day...there are about 20 steps to take tying one of these which includes cutting your own material for the shellback and ribbing and also the biot

Hey, great looking flies! I cant wait to tie a bunch for my next bonefish trip!! Just a quick question though, is it just me or shouldnt the "back" of the fly be where the "underbelly" is and vise versa? It looks like to me that the fly is supposed to ride hook up, so if this is the case it seems as though it might be upside down. Heck Im not a bonefish master by any means, its just my 2 cents, I wouldnt mess with a fly thats landed over 100 bones even if its supposed to be the other way haha. Just a curious question...Great Ties!--126-3-

all true to a point...much depends on hook style...I prefer a shrimp hook and this does turn the pattern upside down...heres where it gets interesting...I mostly use it as a suspended pattern so it really doesnt matter...when the water is cold/deep I use a weighted one that does bounce the bottom...again the hook style and also the positioning of the calftail will determine whether or not it is inverted...another great way in super shallow is unweighted but "crawling" it in the grass...the "V" weedguard is supple and doesnt interfere with the take and it bounces off weed instead of plowing in...I dont fish sandy tropical looking flats but muddy weedbeds and grassbeds where the food is

Great looking flies! Thanks for the post. I have been looking for something more "fun" to tie than a charlie. What size do you usually fish and have you tied them down to a 4 or 6?

I rarely go that small...I mainly use #1 and #2 but sometimes a #3...yeah, I know they are big and heavy but so are the bones and permit...a 10lb bone has NO problems sucking a size 3 down...I have never used a charlie or anything standard but I do believe that too much is put into it and a bonefish will take just about anything if properly presented...I have caught about 1/2 since Dec on a heavy DB clouser #2 which I personally feel is the best overall saltwater fly reguardless of species...my favorite is orange just like the dreads but also use yellow and white...never get more than a day from a clouser as they get thrashed..usually will need 3 or 4 per day...I have also straightened out 2 this month from trying to stop the all out run...would think the 8lb tippet would give 1st but its tough line

Thank for the info. I wish I got to fish to bones that size. Most of my fishing is Belize and a size 2 is just slightly larger that the average bone!:) I like your use of orange. I tied up a few charlies with bright orange legs, like a biter. They worked great. I am going to have to try some of your clousers. Thanks again

The dreads were refused on Eleuthera whether moved or just sitting.
Color didn't seem to matter, I think they're just too "full". Small and sparse
always seems better there. If I could tie some # 8's or 10's maybe but my fat fingers won't allow it.
