Couldn't bring myself to sell the boat and the facelift/ improvements for the season are almost through but,

Throttle cable is stuck, 1998 Johnson Oceanrunner 150:
- tranny cable engages forward & reverse just fine
- took the binnacle apart & I have about 2" of play in the throttle cable

I will try to get an extra set of hands to work the cable while I check at the motor but any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Roop

2" of play? Remember, the binnacle is designed to advance to Forward or Reverse 'before' advancing the thottle, so there is a DELAY in actuation on the throttle cable side, maybe you're seeing that.

Best thing always with cables is to remove the motor connection end. Then cycle the shifter from the helm binnacle to see what's going on. I have spare 1-year old 24' OMC cables onhand if you want them.

If you upgrade, go with Teleflex Xtreme 33, PM if you want sources for the best price on them.

Thanks Dale, it turned out to be some deposits on the ram (?) at the motor end, cleaned up with some PB blaster & coated with grease to avoid in the future.
