Hi all,
I have an opportunity to use some time shares at an island in the carribean and they have resorts on a few islands including; st. croix, st. marteen, aruba, bonaire, cayman brac and barbados. So I was looking for peoples opinions of which of these islands will afford me the best do it yourself flats fishing opportunities. I will probably rent a car so I will have access to all the spots and will be going in august. Any help would be appreciated and spots would also be of great help.
Thanks in advance,
Shane

Of the islands you have mentioned, I know that Bonaire has the best bonefishing and the best opportunities for large fish. I haven't personally fished there, but out of the others you have mentioned, it would most definitely be more consistent. See if you can use your vacation credit in the Caymans; I would bet you could roll over your timeshare to some place there. Little Cayman has some pretty fine bonefish and permit opportunities (there are also small tarpon), and it's only a short hop from the larger island.

I haven't personally fished the others, but I know that the Lac Bay area of Bonaire is great fishing. The Cargill salt company owns most of the really good water and there is one guide I think that has access, but there are other opportunities to fish the lagoons and salt ponds on the same side of the island. Pink Beach provides good "do it yourself" opportunites, as does the area near the shrimp hatchery. You may be able to hire the guide for a day and then fish by yourself the next. I think he is the best enforcer of the "cargill access" points. The shore diving is also outrageous!

By the way. Lac bay is on the windward side of the island and is the wind surfing captial of the caribbean.
