I broke my tuna spinning rod this weekend (landing a bass) and I need to get building a new one before the fish start getting up on top. I want to build a 7' Calstar grafiter, however, I am not sure exactly which one. The two I am thinking about are the GF700M and GF700H.

I would like this rod to be able to toss bait of 2-4 oz and put serious heat on a fish. I have a 9' Calstar and love how they feel, I just can't find anyplace on the Northshore that stocks these blanks for me to feel.

Thanks,
Sam

I would recommend the 700M, as I use it for 25-30 lb. mono on a conventional rod. IMHO, the 700H would be too stout for use as a spinner.

Try bloodydecks.com for more opinions. I also think some of the guys on that board have wrapped super seekers for use as super tuna whippers with big stellas or accurate twin spin reels.

Unless you are married to the idea of having a graphiter, I would look at the Calstar 270-7. This is one of my favorite glass rods and is perfect for 20-25 lb. mono. I have caught jackpot bluefin (35#) on this rod and it was up to the task. It has a great taper that would respond well to beign used as a spinning rod.

Buena suerte,
