Good news! A new state chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) is forming in Delaware! Anglers who are concerned about the future of saltwater fishing in Delaware are joining together to be “CCA Delaware” in order to have a voice in determining what the future holds for the saltwater species we love.

Why CCA? They have a fish come first philosophy that recognizes the need to be stewards of the resource. Protecting recreational fishing opportunities and access is a priority too, but conservation comes first. I like to call it “Ask not what the fish can do for you; ask what you can do for the fish!”:-)

Also, the new chapter will be concerned with what is happening in Delaware. We will have help from the national organization but we will be working on what is best for Delaware fish, fishermen and women. We will no longer be considered a part of the Maryland chapters that are primarily dealing with the Chesapeake Bay and, oh yeah, Delaware.

We’d like you to consider joining us in this effort. The first step is to attend the first meeting in Milton, Delaware at the Fire Hall meeting room on August 28th at 7:00 PM. If you are interested, please contact Roy Parks at (302) 227-3031 or rgparks@verizon.net. All recreational anglers and conservation-minded people are welcome. For more information about CCA, check out www.joincca.org.

Thanks for your interest and we hope to see you in Milton on August 28th!

And oh yeah, we need dedicated people for leadership positions. You might say we are looking for a few good fishermen and women!

This is why CCA NY lost alot of it's members. They were not 100% supportive when it came to proposals that were local to the NY region. It is good news to hear they are hearing local issues above the Mason Dixon line.

I'm curious if you would be interested in a program we've started at MyFish? We encourage documentation of the recreational fishing catch and provide summarized data back to CCA and DNR agencies for fish caught in their waters. The idea is to encourage the average angler ((guides & captains) to document what they are catching. With the exception of mandatory reports from guides and the hit-or-miss NMFS surveys, numbers from recreational catch numbers are a wild guess.

Check out the catch counter at MyFish to see what we are trying to do. This is a summary stat but we intend to provide much more detail to the local CCA agencies.

Thanks, BA
