I just got a TFO TiCrX two-handed conversion kit that fits on my 8 wt. I am wondering if anyone out there has any ideas on the best line to cast this setup with. I have RIO outbound intermediate 10 wt that I am going to try but figuring out the best line for two handed rods seems to be sort of a advanced science.

Yikes.

My reccomendation is to see if they will open Danvers State again for you.

Can you make it tommorow night at 6pm, Paul from river's edge is coming.

Not sure but I think you may be better off with a double taper line. If during casting two hands are on the rod handle then you will probably be roll casting and/or spey casting.

A conversion kit doesn't make a standard fly rod a Spey rod - it only converts the rod to a single handed rod with two handles. Spey and/or Double handed rods are engineered to use fly lines designed for them. I would suggest you simply stay with the lines you are already using on the 8 wt. as that is what it is balanced for. A conversion kit isn't going to change line weights for the rod - it only gives you 2-hand control of the same rod.

Your Outbound 10-weight will be fine on that rod for overhead casting.

Doug, when you take a rod which was designed for a certain line weight, with a double haul, and eliminate the double haul, you would be surprised at how much grain weight you must add to make up for the lack of the haul.

Some folks actually prefer an 11-weight on the eight weight conversion.

Have fun with it!
