Hi Guys,
My buddy and I are planning on spending 14+ hours out on the NWC. If we aren't seeing any breaking Tuna, we were thinking of setting up a slick by tossing out a few chum buckets and chunking bluefish. If we do this and have blues on a hook, do you think we could attract Shark and/or Tuna?
Has anyone tried this before at the NWC? I have a 6' and 18' steel liter for Shark. Would a Tuna not eat the Blues because of the steel liter? Should I use some heavy flouro instead (80#) and hope that if a shark hits it I won't loose it?
Best regards,

Saw a couple guys doing that last Sunday. They looked to be having a blast with all the dogfish...

Nautiboys...good one with the dogs!!
How do the commerical guys catch giants? Aren't they chunking and using live blues? Do they just put up with the dogs?
I have never spent more than a few hours out at NWC and I figured I could learn something by putting in the time out there. I have seen it on fire and I have seen it dead.

Don't know if it will work for everyone but I jumped off my hardtop last week to kill some time. :-%

Check out the landing reports...the reason they are so low that it has been near impossible to chunk at least on my corner of Jefferies. Stick boats and trollers were the only viable game in town and I saw few people trolling for giants. Good news is that on Jefferies the dogs are thinning out but I still wouldnt chum. Maybe let a live bait or hooked chunk float free and hope for the best but it will probably still be a couple weeks before you have a decent chance.

If you want to have a realistic chance of casting to breaking tuna, I would advise being patient, reading the water, and moving around if the signs arent great. By setting up to shark, you are seriously lowering your chances of finding (and being able to cast to) breaking fish.

as mentioned ,if you put up a chum slick of anything, you will be able to walk on dogfish in no time at all. there are billions of them out there.

I know of some great places to catch dogs!!! We spent 14hrs out at NWC, Tillies and Jeffries on Thrusday. Didn't set up a slick or chunk, yet we had triple hook-ups on dogs all day using the butterfly jigs. After moving from spot to spot, by finding bait on the sounder, we would get our hopes up that we would get something other than a dog. Nope. Dog after Dog. It was a dog day.
It's crazy to say this and I will loose all credablity, but it actualy got more fun as the day dragged on. We would have competitions. First one to pull up a dog won. Time for the fastest dog to the boat. Several nicknames were crowned that day. In my boat, we had the pleasure to fish with the "Dog Officier". One of my buddies was just more skilled than we were at picking up the dogs. He just knew where the were hiding. He worked the rod perfectly when landing a dog. He could make his jig move so that it was irrestiable to the dogs below, often getting one or two dogs following the hooked dog to the boat!
I had heard once that Dogfish are the primary fish used in "Fish & Chips" over in the UK. Is this true? Another rumor I heard is that they are endangered. This can't be the case.
How funny would it be if someone put up a post on reel-time asking for some tips on Dog fishing? How about if someone had a client from the UK coming in that wanted to do some serious dogfishing and set an IGFA record. Is there a record for dogfish on light tackle? If so, I know the place to set a new one.
Anyway, if there is any profit to be had in dogfish, the waters off Cape Ann are the place to be.
Best regards,
